Following the installation of the innovative foundation system for the main LNG Canada tank, executed by Soletanche Bachy Canada, expert in foundations and soil technologies and subsidiary of VINCI Construction, the teams at Entrepose Contracting and VINCI Construction Grands Projets began work on a full-containment, in-house engineered, civil concrete monolithic structure to meet the formidable challenges of the Kitimat site.<\/p>\n
\u2699\ufe0f A high-precision concrete slab
\nDesigned to support the entire tank, the reinforced concrete slab is a key component of the containment system. Its construction required:
\n\u2022 Millimetric planarity to preserve the integrity of the LNG storage
\n\u2022 Phased execution adapted to the site’s complex harsh climatic conditions
\n\u2022 Strict quality control to meet the highest concrete standards<\/p>\n
\u2699\ufe0f A structural concrete wall with a critical dual function
\nSurrounding the slab, a 46-meter-high post-tensioned reinforced concrete wall (entirely in-house engineered) was progressively built. This massive structure ensures:
\n\u2705 Structural support for the dome during and after installation
\n\u2705 The containment barrier system imposed by codes and regulations
\n\u2705 Resistance to external hazard such as fire or blast,
\n\u2705 The post-tensioning works were carried out by Freyssinet, also part of VINCI Construction, whose advanced structural anchoring systems contributed to ensuring the long-term performance and durability of the infrastructure.<\/p>\n
\u2699\ufe0f A reinforced concrete roof (after erection of the steel cupola) to ensure :
\n\u2705 support for the top platform and tank accessories
\n\u2705 resistance to external hazard such as fire or blast,
\nTogether, the slab, wall and roof form the safety monolithic envelope of a “full containment” tank, built in accordance with the world\u2019s most stringent LNG storage standards.

\nThis pivotal phase mobilised multiple teams across quality, construction, and scheduling. It was delivered:
